Dear Parents,
USD 466, Scott City, is committed to improving the lives of the students we serve. We are increasing the emphasis on teaching and promoting personal wellness as a way of life. Our Health Council is currently making plans for the 4th Annual Survivor Wellness Fair for SCHS 9-12 students.
The Wellness Fair will provide students the opportunity to have a blood chemistry profile drawn for $15 (some scholarship money is available for those unable to pay the $15 fee), learn about health, wellness, and safety issues of importance and concern to them, and gain more knowledge about how to live a healthy lifestyle. Our desired outcome is for students to become more informed and proactive for continued emphasis on their own health.
The 4th Annual Survivor Health Fair will be held Friday March 26, 2010 from 8:00-12:00 at SCHS gymnasium. Students choosing to have the blood chemistry profile drawn will need to fast (eat and drink nothing after midnight) prior to the blood draw. We will have food available for those students to eat once they have been tested. The blood chemistry profile will give you baseline levels of hemoglobin, platelets, electrolytes, liver enzymes, cholesterol, and triglycerides as they enter adulthood. Dr. Winter will also be providing free fluoride treatments for the students.
Students that participate in the blood chemistry profile will have the opportunity to win one of eight $25.00 gift certificates from the following businesses: Chamber of Commerce, Renaissance Day Spa, Radio Shack, or Gifts, Etc. Smaller door prizes will also be given.
Please sign and return the consent forms(see link above) to the high school office if you want your student to have their blood drawn for the blood chemistry profile and fluoride treatment. If your student is 18 years of age, they may sign their own consent form. Lab results will be complied by Quest Diagnostics Central Plains Laboratory in Hays. The results will be mailed to Janette Storm, who will, then, mail them directly to your home. All lab results will be kept confidential.
We are really excited about the opportunity to have outside agencies share their knowledge of health and wellness concerns with our students. We look forward to your student participating in the 4th Annual Survivor Wellness Fair on March 26th.
Sincerely,
Shelly Turner, SCHS Principal
Janette Storm, USD 466 School Nurse
